Notorious bandit kingpin, Alhaji Sani Yellow, has denied reports claiming he was killed during a recent security operation in Zamfara State.
The video surfaced days after news circulated that a notorious bandit commander identified as Kachalla Sani Yellow had been killed in Anka Local Government Area.
According to a post accompanying the video, the reports were a case of mistaken identity.
“UPDATE: Alhaji Sani Yellow posted a video denying his death that occurred two days ago which was wrongly posted on social media. However, the image of the dead bandit killed is a commander (Yellow) loyal to Gwaska. The name Yellow has become a popular name and a nickname in the banditry world,” the post read.
Earlier reports had claimed that Kachalla Sani Yellow, who allegedly coordinated several attacks along the Anka–Bagega Road, was killed during a confrontation involving the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes supporting ongoing counter-banditry operations.
The slain commander's body was reportedly displayed to residents in Anka as evidence of the operation's success.
However, the latest video suggests that the individual killed was another bandit commander who also bore the nickname “Yellow” and was said to be loyal to a bandit leader identified as Gwaska, not the notorious kingpin, Alhaji Sani Yellow.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement clarifying the identity of the bandit killed in the operation.
